Making Photo Prints without a Computer
PictBridge and ImageLink Remove the Middleman from Home Printing
The PictBridge logo identifies compatible cameras and printers for direct, no-computer printing.
Until recently, when you wanted to make prints of your favorite photos at home, you headed straight for the computer. That's because digital cameras and printers didn't have enough silicon brains to make quality prints on their own. But with today's crop of cameras and printers, you can make great-looking prints fast, without ever booting up your PC, and that's mainly thanks to a little emblem that says "PictBridge."
PictBridge means the camera and printer are ready to talk to each other. You can do direct printing (no computer required) by connecting any PictBridge-supported camera with a USB cable to any PictBridge-labeled printer, regardless of the manufacturer. For instance, not only can you use a Canon printer with a Canon digital camera, you can use the same Canon printer with a Nikon or Kodak or Epson camera--or use an Epson printer with any of the cameras. You get the idea.
Another popular camera to printer system is Kodak's one-touch ImageLink technology that's built into its newest printer docks. ImageLink is designed to simplify at-home printing and is supported by Konica Minolta, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Ricoh and Sanyo cameras. With ImageLink, you can place any compatible digital camera directly on an ImageLink printer dock and then press a single button to make snapshot-size pictures in seconds.
