Olympus rounds out its Four Thirds imaging sensor system DSLRs with the E-30, which is aimed at serious enthusiasts, a popular niche in between the mid-range E-520 and the flagship E-3 that's targeted at pros. The E-30 has a 12.3MP Live MOS sensor, a swiveling, tilting 2.7-inch LCD, in-camera mechanical image stabilization, dust reduction, face-detection (8 faces), Shadow Adjustment technology, and wireless flash capability.
Its signature feature is built-in art filters, including pop art, soft focus, pale & light color (for a retro look), light tone, grainy film and pin hole (with reduced peripheral brightness like a pinhole camera shot). Also provided is a digital leveler that detects the camera's pitch and roll, and multi-aspect ratio shooting, including the standard 4:3 and 16:9 (HDTV) as well as 6:6 (medium format), 3:2 (35mm format), 5:4, 7:6, 7:5 and 3:4 ratios.
$1,299; add $599 for the Zuiko Digital 14-54mm f/2.8-3.5 II lens.
