It's funny how one of the best games to grace the Playstation 3 isn't some rapid-fire, gun-toting mix of bloodshed and mayhem, but rather a fun-filled platformer called LittleBigPlanet that does a wonderful job of mixing thoughtful design and user-based creativity.
LittleBigPlanet is a game that blooms over and over again on the Sony Playstation 3, yielding more content from hidden elements within each level. Some are so immersed with these elements that you'll need an extra one, two or even three other players to get them all. But cooperative gameplay is part of the name of the game here because one action creates a reaction. You don't necessarily have to be a physics scholar to figure out how it all works, but the game does make you think.
Not to mention that it's a lot of fun for just about anyone willing to pick up a PS3 controller. Gamers, non-gamers, casual gamers, mom, dad, grandma, and anyone else that comes to mind. And it's that feeling of endless possibilities that makes LittleBigPlanet what it is. You essentially solve problems with solutions of your own. Your little Sackboy chacter can find his way to the finish line by jumping, swinging, swooping, riding, ducking — you name it. As mentioned earlier, all the hidden goodies in each level will likely bring you back for seconds, only adding to the fun later on.
As fun as it can be to go through all that, LittleBigPlanet's real impact is in its level editor. Creating your own environments for others to play in can make anyone feel a real sense of accomplishment. It's like seeing something you wrote get published, or a product you built being utilized by someone for good use.
This isn't just one of the best games to ever come out for the PS3, it's easily one of the best games of 2008. A worthy gift for anyone who has the console, or even a nice present for yourself, LittleBigPlanet is in itself a gift that keeps on giving with its addictive gameplay.
