Panasonic Unveils HDC-SDX1 and HM-TA1 Full HD Camcorders That Work as Webcams


Panasonic CamcordersSecaucus, NJ—Panasonic’s HDC-SDX1 is billed as “the world’s lightest Full High-Definition (HD) camcorder,” weighing under 0.41 lb., while the HM-TA1 is a Full HD 1,920x1,080-pixel mobile video camera with pocket-sized dimensions. Both camcorders double as webcams for video chatting.

HDC-SDX1. With a stylish, lightweight design, the Panasonic SDX1 features a 35.8mm wide-angle Panasonic HDC-SDX1lens, 23x intelligent zoom and serves as a webcam and microphone, allowing users to connect with online video chat programs, such as Skype, and make video calls over the Internet. By connecting the SDX1 to a computer, users can enjoy face-to-face communication on the computer screen.

In addition, the SDX1 supports the Apple iFrame video format for loading and editing of image data using a Mac computer. Users can directly upload video clips to YouTube or Facebook without having to launch a browser, with its included software.

Also featured is a newly-developed hybrid optical image stabilization system that provides optical and electrical hand-shake correction; 1,920x1,080 image quality; the ability to record in the PC-friendly MP4 format; a 2.7-inch wide LCD monitor; and Panasonic’s intelligent auto (iA) mode, which automatically selects the most suitable of six shooting modes (face recognition, hybrid OIS, AF/AE tracking, intelligent scene selector, face detection, intelligent contrast control).
 The HDC-SDX1 will retail in black in September 2010. $499.95.

Panasonic HM-TA1 Camcorder
Panasonic HM-TA1HM-TA1. Measuring 2.09x0.70x4.09 inches and weighing 0.25 lb. (with battery and SD card), this Full HD model is geared for on-the-go shooting. It offers intuitive operation with single-function buttons for power, play, record, still photo, led light (on/off) and delete, plus a center keypad for accessing other settings. Also provided are an integrated USB terminal (for uploading and recharging), preloaded software that allows for PC connection and uploading videos to online sharing sites, and support for the Apple iFrame video format (960x540/30p), which is optimal for Mac users to import and maintain small file sizes.

It too functions as a web camera and microphone, working with IP-based video chat programs, such as Skype, by connecting it to a computer via an included USB port. It can capture 8 megapixel still photos and records to SDXC/SDHC/SD cards. And it can cut still images out of a video clip during editing. Also included are color effects for creative shooting.
