Black Friday Deals: Black Friday Digital Camera Deals

Tis the season to trample your fellow holiday shopper as you elbow and shove toward the under-priced merchandise. Far be it from me to rain on this parade of rampant consumerism. Instead, let's get in on the action. A site called LiveBlackFriday.com has scanned over one hundred Black Friday deals from dozens of retailers. Amazon.com is running a number of Black Friday specials (and here there's no trampling involved). You'll find the Panasonic Lumix G1 at a discount, among other good deals. Back Up Your Photos!

Sometimes, the best lessons in life are the one's we learn the hard way. Me, I've long preached the gospel of backing up your digital images and videos. You never know, I clucked, when disaster will strike. Well, disaster struck. Me. A few days ago, the family PC came to a crashing halt. It positively refused to start. And nestled inside her lifeless corpse lay gigabytes upon gigabytes of digitized family memories. Now, I'm not a hypocrite - at least on matters of digital imaging. So I had safely secured most of my pics and videos on DVDs, online and...

Panasonic Digital Frame With iPod Dock

We've seen digital frames stuffed with a printer, now Panasonic is with a slightly more coherent convergence concept: a digital frame with an iPod dock. Much like the iLuv portable media player, the MW-10 is designed to pull multiple duties - its 9-inch LCD display, SD card slot and 4GB of internal memory handles the photo viewing functions, a CD player and iPod dock coupled to high-end, internal speakers (Panasonic promises "audiophile sound") handles the music and a remote lets you handle it all from the comfort of the couch. It's a nice little package, but at $299, it's certainly...

Kodak Gallery: Facebook Uploading from Gallery

Kodak recently pulled back the curtain on a revamped Kodak Gallery - their online photo service. Among the notable improvements are sharing images with Facebook (something services like Flickr and Shutterfly have had for a bit) and more importantly, the ability to store and freely download high resolution images at will. I've played with the Gallery-to-Facebook link a bit. It takes a little digging to find it but it does work as advertise. You're able to share a link from your Gallery images to your Facebook account. That link allows Facebook visitors to view the Gallery images without first having...

Canon Powershot S90 Review

It’s tempting to accuse Canon of some false advertising with the Canon PowerShot S90 digital camera. Here it sits, an innocent looking point-and-shoot when in fact this 10-megapixel compact is bristling with sophistication and functionality that advanced users will almost certainly swoon over. Read the full review here.

Nikon Coolpix S1000PJ Helicopter Boyz

The Nikon Coolpix S1000PJ is one of the cooler digital cameras to come along in quite a while, all due to one feature - after you take a digital image, you can instantly display it on the wall, using its projector feature.  Here's a great review of the camera! Well, let's take that concept to the extreme - what if you strapped Nikon S1000PJ cameras all over your body, and projected multiple images at one time?  Who would do that? Check this out!

Samsung's Smash Proof OLED Display

A friend sends along this link to a video of Samsung's flexible OLED display getting hammered (literally). While I can do without the music, the video is still impressive. Check it out: Obviously, there are a lot of applications that could benefit from a more resilient display. Of course, the rest of the device has to be similarly tough...

Dear Google: Fix My Digital Frame

Dear Google, I know you're busy, what with this Android thing. But I wanted to turn your attention to another device which could use your touch: the digital photo frame. Like many people, I own a digital frame (several, in fact). And, like many people, I rarely use it. It's not that I don't like my frames - I do! But most of my frames require some care and feeding - taking them down, updating the images stored to internal memory or swapping out the memory card and updating the images on it. At first, when the romance was new, I...
