Cordless phones are a lot like the Rodney Dangerfield of the consumer electronics market - they can't get no respect. I'm not here to argue that they necessarily should, but it still makes sense to get up to speed on the technology in the event you're in the market for an upgrade. And that means, DECT 6.0.
What is it? Basically, it's the wireless frequency that your digital voice signals travel over from the handset to the base station. What sets DECT 6.0 apart is that it rides a different frequency than most other household wireless gear - wireless routers, baby monitors, some security cameras, and even the microwave. That means a clearer and more secure phone call.
While it's newer in the U.S., DECT 6.0 is actually long established in Europe. That means it's less expensive to build (and hence cheaper for you). It also consumes less battery power, so your phones can be sleeker (smaller batteries) and greener.
Finally, you're probably familiar with the concept of the expandable phone - that is, a single base station can connect to multiple cordless handsets. DECT 6.0 phones take that concept one step further - not only can DECT 6.0 support multiple handsets, it can have multiple base units on the same line. That means you can add way more handsets to your system - sometimes north of 20 - if you tie together multiple base units. Of course, you'd need to own a small business, a mansion or possess an unhealthy love of phones to want to do that. But still, it's cool to know you can.
