Final on analog to digital TV conversion from Carol Brady Bunch

I have written about this analog to DTV conversion until my eyes are blurry so I'm going to let Florence Henderson - Carol Brady of TV's Brady Bunch - have the last word on DTV conversion. Pointing you to CrunchGear's recent article, I'll tell you the Florence Henderson guide is pretty cool. Use the above link and scroll down to the second paragraph where the writer links you to Carol Brady's guide. It's a safe Pdf file and worth the read if you have any concerns about the coming broadcast television change over. I got a  kick out of the tone...

Web watch - finding money facts online

In this economy, money is on everybody's mind. I dug up a couple of really interesting websites that address everything from how to invest your money to how to spend your money to managing your credit reports. Here we go. Online advice The Online Version of Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine is a great source of free advice and information about a variety of money topics. The site's forums provide a way for readers to discuss issues such as paying for college with reporters who have written on those topics. Credit questions If you've got questions about credit reports, debt repayment,...

Photoshop Elements is perfect for Father's Day

Digital photography is not mom or grandma's exclusive domain. Dad's and grandpas, oh yes, particularly grandpas, are magicians with digtal cameras and software to enhance their photos. I have a fantastic idea for a Father's Day gift. We've talked before about Adobe's PhotoShop Elements and Premier Elements, which they now package together as a pretty cool tool box for digital photo moguls and beginners alike. This affordable pair, which I have been using for about a year, is a direct hit for men who love to capture images and enhance them. The software is an awesome gift - but if your family...

How to install a high definition free TV antenna

There's a movement afoot- some people are dumping pricey pay TV services in favor of free digital over-the-air signals - broadcast TV just like Grandma used to do, only better. Winegard, long established maker of TV antennas supplied us with some samples to try out, after I told them I hadn't even been close to a TV antenna in 20 years. The first thing we found out was that installing an antenna is pretty much one of the simplest things we've ever done. The instructions packaged with the antennae weren't the best ever written, but a person with rudimentary knowledge...

Protect your computer from the latest virus Win32 Vitro

Win32Vitro Virus is out and about - protect your computer. It's time to get concerned again, according to my favorite guru - Mike DeMichele - at Save My Butt. This time, it's a pretty big concern if you make a habit of trolling the web and downloading out of the ordinary video files from sites that are off the beaten path. Mike says this bug gets into your computer and your external or thumb drives. From there, it can infect every executable (.exe) program you have. That means all your software - whether the software came with your computer or you installed it...

Amazon Kindle Deluxe is overpriced and unexciting

Amazon spit out a new Kindle announcement today. Are they being a little too voluminous with this stuff? Bigger. Ok. Deluxe - well, the price is pretty deluxe, for Amazon profit. And everyone knows the letter "X" is marketing magic. If there's a reason for boomers to care about this product release (sometime during the summer) maybe it's the almost 3X more display real estate. But come on, the price tag!  In a time of econ crunch, belt tightening and rampant job losses? It's very close to $500. $489. Other Kindle features: It'll handle PDF (portable document format) Adobe's ubiquitous...

Amazon on the edge of yet another Kindle announcement?

No sooner were there rumors of a new and improved iPhone/iPod “Kindle killer” than Amazon one-upped the competition with a rumor of their own. A Wednesday May 6th press conference is expected to include the release of a new and improved Kindle. Again? The needed improvement is a price point that makes the Kindle thing attractive to a wider audience. As reported by Thomas Ricker of Engadget and Peter Kafka at All Things Digital none other than the New York Times will partner with Amazon on the supposed Kindle electronic reader project. Nobody really knows anything about the potential Kindle...
