"Hello Kitty" Version of Casio Digital Camera

Last week I told you about the "Stussy" version of the Ricoh GR III digital camera and this week it looks like Casio is introducing a special "Hello Kitty" edition of its EX-Z90 camera. So if you're a fan of Hello Kitty, this 12-megapixel Casio with a 3x zoom could be the camera for you. It's not cheap though and I still haven't been able to determine if it's going to be sold in the United States. According to the TFTS blog, the pink and stylish Hello Kitty camera is Korea-only right now and will cost about $300. (The regular version...

Stussy Version of Ricoh GR III Digital Camera

The Ricoh GR III digital camera will be offered in a special new design from clothing manufacturer Stussy, reports Japan-based website Akihabara News. The Stussy makeover of the Ricoh GR III is being done to help celebrate the 30th anniversary of the US-based fashion company. Though all the features on the GR III are the same as the original version -- 10MP CCD sensor; 28mm f/1.9 lens; 4x digital zoom -- the Stussy special edition features a stylish blue ring around the lens and a few other trendy touches.  No word yet on whether the Stussified Ricoh will make it to the...

Pandigital Printer Uses Zink's New Larger Instant Paper

When I first wrote about the Polaroid Pogo mobile instant printer for DemystifyingDigital.com I thought it was an interesting device that needed a few more features. Zink, the company which makes the paper for the Pogo, is seeking to expand the options for instant printing with its new 4x6-inch instant paper. Though Zink's 4x6 paper is too large to work with the current Polaroid Pogo, it might be used in larger follow-up mobile printers from Polaroid. In the mean time, there is one printer on the market that can use the paper: the Pandigital Portable Printer with ZINK Technology. The Pandigital...

Digital Photography is So Easy...Even a Cat Can Do It!

One of the most wonderful things about digital photography is how easy it is for anyone to take pictures. A cat in Seattle though has taken the simplicity of digital cameras to the extreme. Each week, the owners of Cooper, a four-year-old American shorthair cat, strap a "lighweight" camera to the feline's collar which automatically snaps a photo every two minutes. The best of the photos are then sold on the website, Cooper: Photographer Cat. While this idea, on face value, sounds absurd, people love their cats (and their digital cameras) and the site seems to be doing a brisk business...

Ricoh GXR: A Camera System That's (Literally) the Sum of Its Parts

Ever wish you could build your own camera? Ricoh seems to have just the imaging system for you. Called the Ricoh GXR, the product apparently uses one of two interchangeable small black blocks as the centerpiece of the system. The blocks contain the sensor, a lens, and an LCD screen. Other parts of the Ricoh camera are then added on almost like accessories. (UPDATE: Details on the new GXR were sketchy when we first posted this but Ricoh has since officially launched the camera. See the press release below.) According to 1001 Noisy Cameras, the Ricoh camera units come in two...

Mixed Reviews for Samsung's DualView Camera

When the Samsung DualView digital camera was announced back in August, I found the concept of putting an LCD on both the front and back of the device to be an intriguing idea in this this age of Internet narcissism. At the time, I called the DualView the "ultimate vanity camera." Now that DualView is officially out -- the camera comes in two models, the TL225 and TL220 -- it's getting some decidedly mixed reviews. A review this week in Wired magazine, gives it 4 out of 10 and describes the camera as offering "a double dose of dumb." Ouch. Their complaints?...

Kodak Struggles in Tough Economy

Though its name is still a legend in the photo industry, the Eastman Kodak Company continues to struggle in this tough economy, announcing its fourth straight quarterly loss in an earnings report released today. According to the Associated Press, Kodak "recorded a loss of $111 million, or 41 cents a share, in the third quarter, compared with a profit of $101 million, or 35 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales tumbled 26 percent to $1.78 billion from $2.41 billion, missing analysts' forecast of $1.89 billion." While the economy is partially to blame -- many major photo manufacturers, including Canon, have...

Upload Photos Directly to Facebook with Eye-Fi Cards

Eye-Fi memory cards, which let your wirelessly send your photos from your camera to your computer, have been one my favorite recommendations to budding photographers. (No more cords or card readers!) Today, Eye-Fi makes the wireless experience one step better by adding the ability to zap your photos and videos directly to Facebook for immediate sharing with friends and family. You can also beam your photos and videos to over 25 photo sharing sites including Flickr, Snapfish and Picasa, right from the Eye-Fi card in your camera. To help promote the new Facebook feature, Eye-Fi is holding "The Eye-Fi Haunted Video...

Panasonic Lumix ZR1 Review: Pocket Power!

If you're looking with a camera that's small enough to fit in your pocket but with enough power and performance to take great photos, our writer Greg Scoblete recommends the 12-megapixel Panasonic ZR1 in this review. In summary, here's what Greg says in his review of this ultra-slim digital camera with an 8x optical zoom lens: "All in all, Panasonic’s Lumix ZR1 is a solid entry in the ultra-compact field and at $279 it's well priced for its good feature set, above average image quality, and compact style. The ZR1 boasts more than enough resolution for poster-sized prints, a superb, wide angle,...
