I have always had an emergency kit of some kind, but when you have kids you start to think not only about yourself, but about their needs and comfort during any emergency or difficult situation. When we started to think about emergency preparedness, we did some research online and found a site that has been so helpful with creating our emergency plan. Ice-Qube Emergency Preparedness Solutions became our resource for preparing our family.
At first we created our own emergency preparedness kit but quickly realized we needed a lot for a family of four with a pet. So, we looked at the emergency kits from Ice-Qube and realized they were comprehensive, compact and affordable. We went from big boxes of stuff, to one compact kit. We added a small Ice-Qube Dog kit to make sure our four-legged family member was taken care of as well.
ICE Plans
Once we had our emergency preparedness kit in place, we knew an emergency plan was the next thing to create. As with the homemade kit we attempted, we tried to think of what we would need in the way of ICE (In Case of Emergency) Plans. We decided to go back to the Ice-Qube website for ideas. To our delight, we found the site was not only great for emergency preparedness, but uses technology to help you be prepared.
The site has a page where you can download ICE Emergency Plans that are customized for you. Just choose the plan or plans that are right for your family and start filling in your information right on the site. Once your information is typed in, print the number of copies you need and you'll have helpful emergency plans with all of the information you need that look great too.
There are Family Plans, Baby Plans and even Pet Plans too. On the same page they also offer Family ICE Emergency Cards. These are wallet sized cards with your emergency contact information that are sized to fit in backpacks, briefcases, travel bags, or purses. You can even carry them with you on vacation.
Keeping Your Supplies Fresh
As a leader in emergency preparedness, it is refreshing to see that Ice-Qube has embraced technology and is making it work for you. In addition to the customized plans, you can also sign up for a Free Annual Reminder to update your emergency kit. Choose a date to receive your reminder and they will email you when it is time to replenish your food, water and medical supplies that may be close to their expiration date. Now that's a handy feature!
Staying Informed
I have found the Ice-Qube Blog has a lot of current information about what is happening in regards to emergency preparedness and when I read a post about giving the gift of emergency preparedness I realized that would be a thoughtful thing to share with for anyone in my family.
I made ICE Plans for my parents and included them in their holiday cards this year. They both loved the thought and feel like they are more prepared now that they have them.
