Female Memory Keepers
Helping To Spur Western Europe Digital Camera Market: InfoTrends

Weymouth, MA—As in the U.S., despite the economic climate, DSLR cameras continue to drive sales in Western Europe, and the latest study from InfoTrends reveals that female memory keepers are leading the charge.
According to the research firm, “as the DSLR market matures, DSLR buyers are shifting from early adopter male hobbyists to female family memory keepers.” And, findings from a recent study, “Western European Digital Camera Purchasing Behaviors,” also indicate that first-time DSLR purchasers, frustrated by point-and-shoot cameras’ shutter lag issues, are beginning to step up to DSLRs for their performance features.
While enthusiasts continue to seek the latest and greatest technologies, the new camera buyers are more concerned with ease of use, convenience and competitive prices. Based on this, InfoTrends believes that consumers are now demanding the functionality of a DSLR but with the easy of operation and simplicity of a point-and-shoot compact.
“If digital camera vendors hope to reignite the compact camera market and create a spike in replacement sales, they must address the shutter lag problem,” explained Mona Ghazaeepour, a research analyst at InfoTrends. “Shutter lag remains a key consumer complaint, and digital camera vendors have yet to offer a solution. . . Digital camera vendors who do not have DSLRs in their lineups must work on addressing this issue to prevent consumers from defecting to other camera brands.” infotrends.com
