Large 3 inch AMOLED screen on the Samsung NX10
Samsung announced it will unveil the next-generation NX10 digital SLR during the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show, January 7-10, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Available in two colors, black and silver, the compact Samsung NX10 incorporates a 14.6 megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor, a 3.0-inch AMOLED screen for easily viewing images even in bright sunlight, and HD movie recording. Samsung reports the NX10 has one of the fastest autofocus (AF) systems in its class currently on the market, due to its DRIMe II Pro engine and advanced AF algorithm.
Engineered with “the heart of a DSLR embedded inside the compact frame of a digital camera, successfully integrating the APS-C size CMOS sensor with a mirrorless interchangeable lens,” the sleek, lightweight camera is designed to easily be taken anywhere. It measures 4.8x3.4x1.6 inches and weighs .78 pound without its battery and a memory card.
Samsung continues to extend the usage of AMOLED screens across product lines, using a 3.0-inch AMOLED screen in the NX10. AMOLED is said to provide easier viewing in bright sunshine and at acute viewing angles. According to its specs, the screen provides a 10,000-times faster response rate than conventional LCDs, has a far lower power consumption and higher contrast ratio (10,000:1 vs. 500:1).
“The new Samsung NX10 marks the start of the next generation of cameras,” said SJ Park, CEO of Samsung Digital Imaging Company. “We know from our detailed research over several years that what consumers want from their cameras is evolving, which we’ve reflected in the development of the Samsung NX10. With specialist equipment open to everyone and no longer restricted solely to the professional, more and more people want to capture something creative and tell a story through their camera—but they also want something compact that they can carry around with them all day. The large sensor and the ultra fast auto focus give consumers the quality they demand as well as the compactness they want in one exceptional package.”
The NX10 also offers a range of intelligent features to help even amateur photographers take quality images. Along with in-depth manual controls, the camera has a smart auto function that automatically detects the surrounding environment and selects the best shooting mode. The smart range feature also enables users to express both bright areas and dark areas in the same frame, while a supersonic dust-reduction system aids in keeping dust particles clear of the image sensor. Other features include: an electronic viewfinder; pop-up flash; lens shift optical image stabilization; and the ability to automatically place the AMOLED screen on standby to conserve power whenever a user puts the camera up to his face. The NX10 will be available spring 2010; price to be determined. samsung.com
