Pentax Optio I-10
Pentax unveiled three cameras with fresh designs. In addition to the contemporary looking Optio H90, and 10MP E90 priced under $100, Pentax launched the first model in its Optio I line. The form factor of the slim Optio I-10 was inspired by the look of film SLRs. It sports a flash unit and speaker in the upper midsection of its SLR-shaped body, and its front panel is embellished with leatherette texture and the classic Pentax logo.
The camera boasts a wide-angle 5x optical zoom lens (28–140mm equivalent), with an intelligent zoom function that Pentax says extends the digital zoom range to 31.3x. Other features include 12.1MP, a 2.7-inch widescreen LCD, ISO 6400, 11 digital filters to add effects to images in-camera, and 30-fps, 720p HD video capture. Movie SR mode allows the Optio I-10 to digitally minimize camera shake to prevent blurry footage.
Also incorporated are mechanical sensor shift shake reduction and improved Pixel Track Shake Reduction technology for reduced blurring, as well as smile capture, blink detection and improved face detection that spots 32 faces, even dogs and cats.
New is a picture-in-picture function that displays an image’s thumbnail in the upper corner of the LCD.
Users can add decorative frames and/or letters/characters to images, and a digital panorama mode creates a single panoramic from three images. Also, a digital wide function allows composing an ultra-wide-angle picture from two images.
Pentax’s Optio I-10 is remote control compatible (sold separately) and supports Eye-Fi wireless cards. It ships in classic black and pearl white for $299.95. pentaximaging.com
