Wayne, NJ—JVC’s high-definition Everio GZ-HM550 camera with built-in Bluetooth wireless technology is now available at retail. The new Everio features a 10.6 megapixel CMOS sensor for recording Full HD video and capturing 9 megapixel digital stills to its internal 32GB flash memory. An SD/SDHC card slot provides additional storage.

Among the capabilities the camcorder’s Bluetooth technology offers is remote control via a smartphone, geotagging of videos and stills, and use with a compatible Bluetooth headset. Once the supplied application is installed, a Bluetooth-equipped smartphone can be used to control the camera remotely, allowing record, zoom and play operations. And, consumers can use the camera with a GPS device to record location data of where movie and still files were recorded. The data synchronizes with Google Earth when viewing the file on a PC using the bundled Everio MediaBrowser software. The camera can also be used with a Bluetooth-equipped headset to monitor the recorded sound or for voice recording.

Additionally, the GZ-HM550’s back-illuminated CMOS sensor is engineered to enable the shooting of 1,920x1,080 Full HD videos and real 9MP photos, utilizing a Konica Minolta HD lens that offers 16x zoom “without any degradation of picture quality,” specs state. The camera also employs advanced image stabilization and Super LoLux technology for improved low-light sensitivity when shooting in poorly lit environments. The GZ-HM500 is also equipped with an LED light and a flash for shooting in dark situations.

Like other models in the new Everio lineup, the GZ-HM550 provides time-lapse recording and auto-recording functions. Using time-lapse recording, consumers can set the camera to record in intervals ranging from one to 80 seconds; when played back, hours-long segments will be reduced to seconds. With auto record, recording automatically begins when a person enters the picture. Also available are motor drive shooting (9MP stills up to 15 frames per second) and ultra-slow motion playback via high-speed recording (up to 600 fps).

Digital files created by the Everio can be shared using Everio MediaBrowser software for Windows, which now provides automatic conversion of HD videos for YouTube at HD or SD resolution. Files also can be directly exported to iTunes and synced with an iPod or iPhone, or burned to DVD.

The JVC GZ-HM550 Bluetooth-enabled camera has an MSRP of $799.95. jvc.com
